Product Review: Daiwa Fuego LT Reels
Background: Daiwa's newest line of fishing reels blends light and sturdy materials with state-of-the-art designs to create a product that will take a beating and still maintain that smooth retrieve we all covet.
Why I Fish It: Having fished the Shimano Stradic line of reels for the past few years, I have come to appreciate a lightweight reel that can withstand the occasional saltwater bath, and I am willing to pay for those features. However, with a starting price of $99.99 for the Daiwa Fuego LT spinning reel, I can now save some of that money for filling out the rest of my tackle box.
This reel has survived snotty surf reds, smoker kings, and clumsy friends without skipping a beat. When I am casting artificials all day, the last thing I want is a heavy reel wearing out my arm. Thankfully, this reel is packed with features aimed at making it one of the lightest and smoothest on the market. I don't ever want to hear or feel that handle seizing up on me when I'm on fish, and with the innovative Daiwa Fuego LT, I never have to.
How I Fish It: I paired a 2500 series with 12lb braided line and a Star Plasma Inshore Spinning (6-14lb). This reel has plenty of stopping power for wrestling those over-slot reds out of docks, while remaining light enough so that I can cast soft plastics for trout all day and still feel any subtle pickups.
